The Teatro Lirico Sperimentale<\/strong>, in collaboration withtheUniversity of Milan – Centro Studi Pergolesi<\/b><\/strong>, will stage as many as two performances dedicated to the Baroque repertoire for the 2024 season. This year, the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale will stage two intermezzi by Domenico Sarro<\/strong>, leading composer of the glorious season of the early 18th-century Neapolitan School, which played a key role in exporting Italian opera throughout Europe. \nThis review has now become a traditional fixture in the theater’s playbill and is dedicated to 18th-century Intermezzi. They are short works between comic and farcical centered on two or three characters, which were performed in Neapolitan theaters during the intervals between the acts of serious operas. Intermezzi served the function of entertainment for the audience, which was highly entertained by these small operatic creations, sometimes showing even greater interest than the main serious melodrama. <\/span><\/p>\n
\nThese interludes are entitled Moschetta and Grullo<\/em><\/strong> <\/em>and Eurilla and Beltramme<\/em><\/strong> and were composed by Sarro himself for the interludes of two of his serious melodramas. Moschetta e Grullo<\/em> is in fact the intermezzo for the opera Siroe re di Persia<\/em>, which was first performed at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples in 1727; Eurilla e Beltramme <\/em>, on the other hand, is the intermezzo for La Partenope<\/em>, the first performance of which took place in 1722 at the same theater.
\nThe production of Moschetta e Grullo <\/em>is a revival from the 2023 season, while the staging of Eurilla e Beltramme <\/em>is a first performance in modern times.<\/span><\/p>\nPerformers<\/span><\/h3>\n
