They are short works between comic and farcical centered on two or three characters, which were performed in Neapolitan theaters during the intervals between the acts of serious operas. Intermezzi served the function of entertainment for the audience, which was highly entertained by these small operatic creations, sometimes showing even greater interest than the main serious melodrama.

This year, the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale will stage two intermezzi by Domenico Sarro, leading composer of the glorious season of the early 18th-century Neapolitan School, which played a key role in exporting Italian opera throughout Europe.
These interludes are entitled Moschetta and Grullo and Eurilla and Beltramme and were composed by Sarro himself for the interludes of two of his serious melodramas. Moschetta e Grullo is in fact the intermezzo for the opera Siroe re di Persia, which was first performed at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples in 1727;
