SUMMARY:Le Nozze di Figaro | Teatro Lirico Sperimentale (Spoleto)
DESCRIPTION:The 79th Sperimentale Opera Season 2025 ends with a new production of Le Nozze di Figaro\, an opera in four acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. This masterpiece\, which premiered in Vienna in 1786\, is a comedy of intrigue and deception that lays bare a dizzying\, deeply human gallery of feelings and moods. The latter aspect distinguishes it from its source\, the drama of the same name contained in Beaumarchais’ Figaro Trilogy\, which is more devoted to the reasons for biting social and political criticism. After Don Giovanni (2022)\, the staging of Mozart’s Dapontian Trilogy thus continues. The performance is conducted by Marco Angius\, the direction and sets are by Henning Brockhaus\, for a production marked by the theme of eroticism as a key to self-consciousness and knowledge of the world. Costumes are by Giancarlo Colis. \nThe opera will be staged at the Teatro Nuovo in Spoleto (Sept. 12\, 13\, 14: performances open to the public; Sept. 15 and 16: performances for schools) and at main theaters in the Umbria region: Teatro Morlacchi in Perugia (Sept. 18)\, Politeama Clarici in Foligno (Sept. 20); Teatro degli Illuminati in Città di Castello (Sept. 21)\, Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto (Sept. 22); Teatro Comunale in Todi (Sept. 23 and 24). \nPerformers\nDirection: Marco Angius\nDirection and scenes: Henning Brockhaus\nCostumes: Giancarlo Colis\nCoreography: Valentina Escobar\nLight designer: Eva Bruno \nFigaro: Nicolò Lauteri | Mattia Ribba | Marco Gazzini\nSusanna: Kristýna Kůstková | Eleonora Benetti | Sara Di Santo | Gaia Cardinale\nContessa: Lorena Cesaretti | Giorgia Costantino | Francesca Paoletti | Viktoriia Balan\nConte: Andrea Ariano | Marco Guarini | Stepan Polishchuk\nCherubino: Emma Alessi Innocenti | Francesca Lione | Francesca Mercuriali\nMarcellina: Elena Finelli | Chiara Latini\nBartolo/Antonio: Sathya Gangale | Davide Romeo\nBasilio/Don Curzio: Nicola Di Filippo | Joaquin Echave Cangemi\nBarbarina: Beatrice Caterino | Ariadna Vilardaga \nCalamani Orchestra of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale\nChoir and Technicians del Teatro Lirico Sperimentale \nRepresentations\n12 and 13 September | 8:00 pm\n14 September | 4:30 pm\n15 and 16 September (shows for schools) | 9:30 am \nTeatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti\, Spoleto (PG)

French chapel forms and organics parade in the chosen program\, from the bare splendor of the “Antiphona sine organo ad Virginem” H. 28 (Sub tuum praesidium)\, for three a cappella dessus\, to the sweeping fresco of the “In Assumptione Beatae Mariae Virginis” H. 353\, where choral and solo invocations\, imitative-concert sections alternate episodes of relaxation with litanean refrains. The canticle “Ad beatam Virginem” H. 340 chisels a trio Haute-contre\, Taille and Basse with concertante instruments and continuo\, in fine timbral balance and affective suspensions. The “Salve Regina” H. 27\, is conceived as a solo intermediate entrusted to the soprano voice. The “Magnificat” H. 73 distills the poetics of the male voice trio on chaconne bass\, varying the affects between humilitas and exaltatio. The “Litanies de la Vierge” H. 83 closes: chain of invocations according to Parisian praxis\, with luminous progressions\, persuasive modulations and wide-ranging devotional culmination. \nFree admission subject to availability

SUMMARY:Awakening 2026: Flower\, Muse of the Arts - Flower Catalogue
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, MAY 2 – 7 and 8:30 p.m. (duration 75 minutes)\nStorytelling between music\, cinema and botany\nwith Marco Angius\, Mariacristina Villani\, Luca Di Lorenzo\nwith Voice Emma Alessi Innocenti\nand musicians from the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto\nActivities included in the admission ticket | By reservation only\nPlease note that the ticket includes a visit to the Botanical Garden on the day of the event\, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. \nIn a sensory journey between arts and science\, Darius Milhaud’s Catalogue de fleurs (1920) becomes the subtle plot that unites three gazes: the musical one of Marco Angius\, the cinematic one of Luca Di Lorenzo and the botanical-narrative one of Mariacristina Villani. Flower after flower\, short live performances intertwine with images\, stories and film fragments\, building a path in which music\, cinema and botany continuously dialogue. The flower thus emerges as form\, symbol and rhythm\, crossing different languages and opening connections between scientific observation and imagination. \nFrom the scent of violets to the geometries of fritillaries\, from the purity of lilies to the passion of roses\, each species reveals a real\, poetic and visual world. In closing\, the full performance of the piece restores the unity of listening\, letting the interweaving of the arts and the audience’s gaze emerge. \nThe event is held at the University of Padua Botanical Garden in the Botanical Theater.\nOnline reservations available beginning Friday\, April 17.

SUMMARY:Una promessa infranta | Teatro Lirico Sperimentale (Spoleto)
DESCRIPTION:The second event of the 80th Season of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale is dedicated to contemporary music\, with the staging of Una promessa infranta\, a chamber opera composed on commission by Federico Gardella\, with a libretto by Cecilia Ligorio\, who is also the director. Sets and lighting will be by Alberto Favretto and costumes by Clelia De Angelis. \n«Una promessa infranta – Gardella explains – is a one-act opera based on the short story of the same name by Lafcadio Hearn (an Irish writer who was born in Greece and lived in Japan)\, which is inscribed in the very ancient tradition of Japanese ghost stories\, the Kwaidan. Love lost and then found (and then lost again)\, fear\, guilt\, are the feelings that act on the characters\, inextricably intertwining them with each other. The inner world\, with its uncanny bearing\, represents the place where this story happens and defines the sound with which we try to investigate the depths of the human ». \nMimma Campanale is serving as music director\, returning to Spoleto for this new production: «I am very happy to return to Spoleto to conduct another world premiere. The Teatro Lirico Sperimentale has always made the discovery and promotion of new talent its mission\, exploring the uncharted territories of new music with sensitivity and courage. Last year\, with Nanof\, l’altro\, we explored the twists and turns of mental illness; this year\, sound will become a vehicle for fear and torment in a story where the dark tones of the psychological thriller will be counterpointed by the poetry of ancient Eastern traditions. ». \n  \nSingers from the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale\nSoloists from the V.
