Cherubino in “Le Nozze di Figaro” | Teatro Lirico Sperimentale (Spoleto)

Concluding the programme of the 79th Sperimentale Opera Season will be a new production of the Marriage of Figaro, an opera in four acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. This masterpiece, which premiered in Vienna in 1786, is a comedy of intrigue and deception that lays bare a dizzying, deeply human gallery of feelings and moods. The latter aspect distinguishes it from its source, the drama of the same name contained in Beaumarchais’ Figaro Trilogy, which is more devoted to the motives of biting social and political criticism. After Don Giovanni (2022), the staging of Mozart’s Dapontian Trilogy continues with direction and sets by Henning Brockhaus imprinted on the theme of eroticism as a key to self-knowledge and knowledge of the world. Costumes are by Giancarlo Colis. The performance is conducted by Marco Angius.

On stage at Spoleto’s Teatro Nuovo on Friday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. (performances for schools: Monday, Sept. 15 and Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9:30 a.m.).

This latest production will be replicated at major theaters in the region: Thursday, Sept. 18, at 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., at Teatro Morlacchi in Perugia; Saturday , Sept. 20, at 4:30 p.m., at Politeama Clarici in Foligno; Sunday, Sept. 21, at 4:30 p.m., at Teatro degli Illuminati in Città di Castello; Monday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m., at Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto; and Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m., at Teatro Comunale in Todi.
